The exhibition will present over a thousand years of history of the Polish state and nation with the help of original monuments, scenography and multimedia. The history of freedom will occupy a central place in this story, including the centuries-old history of Polish parliamentarism, constitutional traditions, republican traditions, the history of the struggle to preserve and regain independence, and the struggle against totalitarianism. Work on the script was carried out by a team of MHP historians, supported by outstanding researchers from leading national academic centers. The exhibition project was prepared by a consortium of the WWAA studio and Platige Image, the winner of an international competition organized by the Museum. The leaders of this team were Natalia Paszkowska and Boris Kudlička. Intensive work on the preparation of the visual and spatial design of the exhibition lasted from November 2016. The final scenario of the exhibition and the scenographic concept of its most important points were developed in 2017.
The exhibition will invite visitors to get acquainted with a fast-paced, dramatic, multi-threaded story. Its content will be conveyed by means of exhibits from the Museum's collection and borrowed from other institutions, original scenography and multimedia installations. All this to create an attractive space for experiencing history. The sightseeing path will lead through six galleries, in which we will tell the history of successive eras: Poland of the Piasts and Jagiellons (from the beginning of the state to 1573), the Old Republic (1573–1795), Under Partitions (1796–1914), Independent (1914–1939) , Fighting Poland (1939–1945), Poles towards communism (1945–1990).
