Physical accessibility
The Polish History Museum of in Warsaw, 1 Gwardii Street, 01–538 Warsaw
The Citadel is accessible through four gates:
· the Bielańska (Bielany)Gate from Czujna Street
· the Straceń (Execution) Gate from the side of Wybrzeże Gdyńskie
· the Nowomiejska (Katyń) Gate from Jana Jeziorańskiego Street
· the Żoliborska (Żoliborz) Gate from Dymińska Street.
For persons with special needs, we recommend entering through the Żoliborska Gate. It is accessed via Dymińska Street from the Warszawa Gdańska junction. Along the entire length of Dymińska Street, where it intersects with the roadway, the pavements have ramps, some with tactile elements.
The remaining accesses to the Citadel gates have stairs, long and rather steep ramps or uneven cobbled-stone pavement.
Access by car is only possible from Wybrzeże Gdyńskie from the side lane towards the city centre. You should leave Wisłostrada before the junction with Krasińskiego Street. Driving along Krasińskiego Street, choose the right lane in the direction of Śródmieście/Mokotów/Ursynów. The entrance is located directly behind Fosa Park and Stawki Street.
The car park is located on levels -1 and -2. The parking spaces on the left are closest to the entrances to the Museum building. On each level, there are designated parking spaces for persons with disabilities immediately adjacent to the Museum entrances. There is a charge for parking. You will reach the ticket office and exhibition entrance by stairs or lift. Go up to level 0 to the main lobby.
The entrance to the Polish History Museum is from Gwardia (Guard) Square. The entrance doors are heavy and difficult to open. We are working on improving their accessibility.
You can enter the Museum and all its rooms with an assistance or guide dog.
There are no thresholds in the Museum, circulation spaces are wide with no architectural barriers.
The ticket office has a high counter and is inaccessible to persons of short stature and those in wheelchairs. The lowering is on the right side but it is too high - 90 cm so there is no sufficient legroom. The temporary exhibition is located on the ground floor, opposite the ticket office. The entrance is very wide, partly fenced off with tape.
Movement between floors is provided by lifts. There are accessible toilets on each floor.
On the ground floor, there is a room for parents with children equipped with a washbasin, changing table and feeding chair, and a medical room.
The Museum has station induction loops at the ticket office, museum shop, library and a reception. Loop stations are marked with appropriate pictograms. In the temporary exhibition space we use neck induction loops. They can be borrowed free of charge at the entrance to the exhibition and in the cloakroom.
Work is underway to set up surface loops in the auditorium, the cinema and theatre hall, as well as two meeting rooms.
Soundproofing headphones can be borrowed free of charge from the Museum’s box office. We are working on introducing quiet visiting hours. There is no soundproofing room in the Museum.
We are preparing a special corner with mobile quiet zones for museum lessons, workshops and events.
We provide Polish sign language interpretation for selected events from the Museum’s offer. We do not provide Polish sign language interpreting services via electronic means.
