Robert Kostro’s mission as Director of the Polish History Museum has come to an end today. He held this position for 18 years, originating, co-creating and building this institution.
During his time in charge, the Museum was carrying out intensive activities. First and foremost, the design for its permanent exhibition presenting one thousand years of the history of the Polish state and nation was prepared, and the construction of the Museum’s building at the Warsaw Citadel was commenced and successfully completed. Five years after the start of its construction, in September 2023, Robert Kostro hosted an inauguration event attended by the highest state authorities and a wide circle of museum professionals and friends of our institution.
The Polish History Museum which he created is more than 44,000 square metres and an impressive multifunctional building. It is dozens of exhibitions presented all over the world from the European Parliament to Polish towns. It is also acclaimed educational, publishing and popularisation projects. It is cooperation with the most eminent researchers from Poland and abroad. Last but not least, it is the PHM’s permanent exhibition, currently under construction, which is scheduled to open in 2026.
