Coffin portrait of a man

Autor nieustalony, ok. 4. ćw. XVII w., olej na blasze cynowej, 35,3 x 35,6 cm, nr inw. MHP-SzM 13
The portrait shows an unidentified nobleman dressed in a żupan and a delia. The intense gaze of the portrayed person's eyes made it possible to achieve the effect of "representing" the deceased during the funeral ceremony, enhanced by the metallic background reflecting the light. The lack of inscriptions or other markings may indicate that the image functioned (probably in a church) in the context of another object - a plaque, metal sheet, or a coat of arms - allowing for the identification of the depicted person through the content contained on it, currently impossible.
