Rok 1939. Część polskiej elity trafia do sowieckiej niewoli, gdzie ma być ideologicznie indoktrynowana. Szczególne zainteresowanie wroga budzi jeden z więźniów – młody pianista o międzynarodowej sławie (Jakub Gierszał), naturalny autorytet dla współosadzonych. Jeśli on się podda, inni mogą pójść jego śladem. Ambitny sowiecki agent traktuje jego złamanie jak osobistą misję, zaczyna się pełen napięcia tytułowy pojedynek. W tym samym czasie część więźniów wciąż wierzy w rychłe zwolnienie, inni przygotowują desperacką ucieczkę. Nikt nie wie, jak mało zostało czasu.

To kino historyczne inspirowane autentycznymi wydarzeniami, podejmujące temat związany z historią Katynia. Film został objęty wsparciem Muzeum, które uznało go za wartościowy głos w opowiadaniu o przeszłości i przygotowało m.in. 11-minutową videoprelekcję przybliżającą kontekst historyczny wydarzeń przedstawionych w filmie. Prelekcja poprzedzi każdy seans.

Gorky Resort – screening with English subtitles

A Polish–Irish–Ukrainian production by the creator of “Gods” and “The Best.”

The year is 1939. Part of the Polish elite is taken into Soviet captivity, where they are to be subjected to ideological indoctrination. One of the prisoners draws particular attention from the enemy—a young pianist of international fame (Jakub Gierszał), a natural authority among his fellow inmates. If he breaks, others may follow his lead. An ambitious Soviet agent treats breaking him as a personal mission, and a tense, titular duel begins. At the same time, some prisoners still believe in their imminent release, while others prepare a desperate escape. No one knows how little time remains.

This is a historical film inspired by real events, addressing a subject connected to the history of Katyn. The film has received support from the Museum, which recognized it as a valuable contribution to telling the story of the past and prepared, among other things, an 11-minute video lecture explaining the historical context of the events depicted in the film. The lecture will precede each screening.
