Treasures of Polish culture return home after 83 years. "The Brotherhood of St Luke: the Great Homecoming" exhibition of Polish History Museum
29 September saw the opening of the exhibition The Brotherhood of St Luke: the Great Homecoming prepared by the Polish History Museum in collaboration with the National Museum in Warsaw. It is made up of seven panoramic paintings and four extraordinary tapestries. The former depict the most important events in Polish history, showing the country’s contribution to the development of Western civilisation, including Poland’s relations with its neighbours, as well as the traditions of tolerance and constitutionalism.

Opening of "The Holodomor and Now More Genocide" exhibition
Even 17 persons per minute was the Ukrainian population’s fatality rate at the peak of the Great Famine (1932–1933), artificially generated by the communist authorities of the Soviet Union. Left unpunished, that genocide, as well as how today’s Russia is seeking to annihilate the Ukrainian nation are the themes of the exhibition "The Holodomor and Now More Genocide" shown at the Open-Air Gallery of the Royal Baths Museum until 30 November.

The Burden of Memory: How can we build solidarity when our memories clash?
During the meeting entitled “The Burden of Memory: How can we build solidarity when our memories clash?” the speakers will focus on the changing memories before, during and after the conflict. They will examine the impact of war on the public memories in Russia and Western and Central Europe, the role of leadership in ending the war of memories, and ways in which we can build solidarity, even when our memories clash.

Paintings by Members of St Luke’s Brotherhood Now Back in Poland
Thanks to the long-standing efforts of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the personal involvement of the Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Culture and National Heritage Prof. Piotr Gliński, a series of seven paintings by members of St Luke’s Brotherhood and four tapestries by Mieczysław Szymański have returned to Poland after 83 years. The works have become part of the collection of the Polish History Museum in Warsaw.

Exhibition "Poles and Hungarians: 1000 Years of Shared History" opens in Budapest
On 24 June, on the eve of the Polish Community in Hungary Day, the permanent exhibition Poles and Hungarians: 1000 Years of Shared History was opened. The festive event was attended by Robert Kostro, Director of the Polish History Museum; Piotr Piętka, Director of the Polish Research Institute and Museum in Budapest; Katarzyna Ratajczak-Sowa, Chargé d’Affaires of the Polish Embassy; Jerzy Platajs, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage Abroad and Memorial Sites in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage; Mariusz Żuławnik, Deputy Director of the Archives of the Institute of National Remembrance, as well as representatives of the Hungarian Polish community, local authorities and journalists.

General Maczek’s Original Uniform Now Part of PHM Collection
On June 1, a ceremonial transfer of General Stanisław Maczek’s uniform to the Polish History Museum’s collection took place at the PHM’s temporary seat. The meeting was attended by General Maczek’s granddaughter Karolina Maczek-Skillen and PHM Director Robert Kostro.

Ukraine: War in Europe. Exhibition of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance in Kyiv, Warsaw, Vilnius and Berlin
The exhibition, of which the Polish History Museum is one of the partners, presents on a dozen or so panels the war waged since February by Russia against Ukraine: the incredible atrocities committed by Russian soldiers in the occupied territories, the heroism of the defenders and the origins of the onslaught. It shows how Putin’s authoritarian regime has gradually destroyed democracy and freedom of speech in Russia and pursued a policy of rebuilding an empire along the lines of the Soviet Union.
